If you are a fan of Julie Andrews, you know where that headline comes from! In our case, it means we are ready to learn, and to get out there and sail. I thought I would highlight a SoCal publication that some of our members may not be aware of, but is a good source for all-things boating related. "The Log" is a free publication you can pick up in most marinas, particularly in front of yacht brokerages or other businesses in a marina. Their online publication is great, and they have a series right now called "Sailing 101" which you can view here. We are welcoming back classes from Judy Fusco, our Education Chair this month. If you have not attended her workshops in the past - they are simply a must do! You will learn a lot, and have fun doing so! Let this be the month you add to your education and fine-tune your sailing skills!
For those of you who were at the April meeting, you know that we have officially elected a new Membership Director, Julie Erikson. She comes to us with a great background and experience in yacht club membership work. We will be getting her up to speed in the coming weeks and we expect to then get caught up on some of our backlog items as it pertains to membership. Please take a moment to introduce yourself to Julie who can be reached at membership@wsaoc.org

Spring is in the air! The days are getting longer and warmer and I’m wearing fewer layers when I’m out sailing, which makes me a happy sailor.
We had a great turnout for our April Spring fling Sail! thank you to our boat owners for contributing their time and boats to make it a fun event!
Our next event is on Saturday, May 21st out of Dana Point. Space is Limited, so Sign up Here! We cant wait to see you all again on the water. Any interested Boat Owners, please contact me ASAP!
In case you missed our April meeting at NBYC, we had a wonderful presentation from Diane Heyman of the USCG Auxiliary going over Boat Safety and what to look for upon boarding a boat prior to getting out on the water. Diane was nice enough to offer her presentation to anyone interested. So, if you would like a copy, please send me an email at rearcommodore@wsaoc.org and I’d be happy to send to you!
At our upcoming meeting, May 11th, we have a lot on the agenda, you don’t want to miss it!

Sunday, August 14th - Adventure Sail for Girls: we’ll take a group of young ladies from the Boys and Girls Club of San Clemente out for a day of fun, sailing and inspiration. Saturday, September 14th - Women in the Wind: This event is for women experiencing health and life struggles who are in need of support and encouragement. We partner with local Soroptimist clubs for this event. I know you’ll want to participate in these events and will get more than you give.
We also are looking for corporate sponsors for event materials, Swag or food. Your company will be noted as a sponsor of the event in any public facing marketing materials.
If you have access to fun kids stuff, pampering or sun/sailing gifts, or anything you think girls or women would like, please contact me at philanthropy@wsaoc.org
