Ahoy WSA-OC Members!

I hope everyone is enjoying the last days of summer! At our next General Meeting, we’ll hold a special election for Membership Director. Your Board of Directors is endorsing Bailey Kruse as a candidate for this position. You will have the opportunity to vote electronically for Bailey or write in and vote for an alternate candidate at our Membership Meeting on Wednesday, September 9th at the Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club.

Bailey Kruse, proposed Membership Director, has always been drawn to the sailing world. Growing up, her best friend would take her sailing to Catalina, and those trips left a lasting impact on her. Now, WSA-OC has allowed her to continue that love of sailing. Bailey works remotely as an account manager for a marketing agency and is tech-savvy. She loves bringing people together and encouraging others to get involved in the community. This club has meant a great deal to her, and she wants to give back by serving on the Board as Membership Director. She is eager to help welcome new members, strengthen connections, and support the vibrant sailing community that has given her so much. Outside of sailing, Bailey enjoys tennis, watercolor painting, following fashion, reading, and riding her bike to the beach. She would be honored to earn your vote and help WSA-OC continue to grow.

Looking ahead to 2027, we’ll also need members to step up to serve as Rear Commodore, Secretary, Communications Director, and Philanthropy Director. If you’ve ever thought about serving on the Board, this is a great opportunity to get involved and help shape the future of WSA-OC.

I look forward to seeing everyone at our September meeting!

Fair winds,

Karen Cooper

Debby Label 2026

In August, our On-The-Water event was held out of Alamitos Bay in Long Beach. We had 29 participants on 5 different sailboats. It was a brisk but warm sailing day. We had a blast at our Tropical Luau event. The afterparty was held at Watch-Me Sports Bar, a bar that celebrates women’s sports.

Our next On-The-Water Pirates/Wenches event will be held in Dana Point on Sunday, September 20, 2026. Be sure to sign up approximately 2 weeks prior to the event.

REMEMBER for Future OTW events:
1. Sign-up will be announced approx. 2 weeks prior to the event, except for Catalina, which will be just over a month in advance.
2. Sign-up is sent to emails as well as posted on the WSA-OC Members Only Facebook page
3. Events sell out quickly.
4. PLEASE sign up for the Wait List, as we can regularly find additional boats and get members onto a boat.
5. Arrive on time for photos prior to boat launch.
6. Cancellations within 48 hours of the event will not be refunded.

Please mark your calendars for these upcoming 2026 OTW events:
** Dates, locations, and times are subject to change based on boat availability and weather.

Looking Ahead to September

As summer winds down, I hope you are all enjoying some time on the water!

We had a wonderful turnout at our August meeting at Dana Point Yacht Club, and it was especially nice to see so many new members in attendance. I hope you enjoyed the photos from our Catalina Extravaganza and the Fit-to-Sail demonstration led by our Commodore, Karen Cooper.

Many of you have made great suggestions while we are at events- ideas that I tend to forget unless I write them down!

We passed around a suggestion sheet at our recent meeting. If you weren’t able to add your thoughts, please feel free to email them to me at RearCommodore@wsaoc.org

I’d love to hear your ideas and suggestions as we continue to make WSA events fun and enjoyable for everyone!
