I am excited by the energy and enthusiasm I saw on display at our March membership meeting and thrilled that we recognized both new and returning members. Thank you for supporting our mission and our board!
For those who couldn’t join us at The Hut last month, I spoke about our processes for providing you opportunities on the water and how much we love and appreciate our boat owners. It is through their generosity that we can provide you with these events!! Did you know that sometimes a boat owner travels to and from another harbor to take you sailing? This could mean three days away from home for a three-hour WSAOC event!
We have focused on providing frequent and timely communications across multiple channels, including publishing our calendar of events on our websitefor easy access. We also include the next three months of event dates in each newsletter so you can plan early and mark your calendar with those events you hope to attend. Keep in mind space is limited and sign-ups often open 7-10 days pre-event, after we have determined the number of boats available to us. If an event is initially sold-out when you attempt to sign up, we automatically provide you a spot on the waitlist, which means you still have a chance to join if we are able to add another boat (in which case we will contact you)! If you can’t make it aboard but want to join us post-sail for a social hour, reach out to your VC Debra Osborne for details on where we will be meeting 😊
Wishing you fair winds and following seas always!
You do not want to miss our April On The Water “OTW” Spring Fling Event in Alamitos Bay! This is a new marina location for a WSA-OC water event so I anticipate significant interest. Upon returning from our sail and disembarking, those who would like to stay for food/drinks/socializing will meet at Seal Beach Yacht Club for a private event. If you are unable to join us for the sail but would like to meet up with us afterwards, you are always welcome to join the after-party!
The link to sign up for Spring Fling will be emailed to current members at the address we have on file and posted on our Facebook Members-Only Group. Once the sign-up link is live, you will receive a text message referring you to your email/and or Facebook. I recommend clicking the registration link to sign up immediately upon receiving notification, as our events have been selling out quickly. If you click the link to register and the event is already sold out, please put your name on the waitlist because spots may very well open up if we can secure another boat.

Last month, WSA-OC was well represented at Dana Point's Festival of Whales, with twenty-four of our sea-sters volunteering to make this a successful event. We had great fun and made a whale of a splash playing sailing trivia with festival-goers who rang our ship bell and earned a carabiner for correct answers. New members joined on the spot and some of those we recruited joined us at our March meeting! Thank you to all volunteers who made this event successful.
WSA-OC, in partnership with Stand Up to Trash, encourages volunteers to help protect our ocean at the next Beach Clean Up/Lunch & Learn at Baby Beach, which will take place this month on Earth Day!
Looking ahead, WSA has multiple philanthropic events on the horizon, where you can make a difference in your community and have a lot of fun while doing it. I would love to connect with you if you are interested in learning more about future opportunities to volunteer.
