Welcome, WSA-OC Member to Holiday Season,

Please join us as we celebrate! Mark your calendars so you don’t miss out on any of the merriment. Saturday, November 22nd, is ‘Friendsgiving,’ an invitation to tour gorgeous Newport Harbor and share a gift and the gift of your presence with new and longtime WSA-OC friends.

The WSA-OC Holiday Party on Thursday, December 11th, will be our second at ALYC, and this year will be even bigger and better. Invite your friends and family, and plan to participate in the Silent Auction to benefit our non-profit organization Reminder to bring your donated baskets and items to our November 12th FINAL meeting of 2025 at BCYC.

Speaking of our FINAL General Membership Meeting, this one is special because it is our annual election, and you will be voting in new members to the Women’s Sailing Association Board of Directors.

We have provided all members with the candidates’ statements of interest via email on October 30th. You can access the link here: 2026 Board Candidates to learn more about the candidates and prepare to vote. We will be voting electronically so that even if you cannot attend the meeting, you will have the opportunity to cast your ballot that evening, between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.. Be on the lookout for the voting link, which will be sent to you via email on November 12, 2025

Beloved WSA-OC Lifetime Member, Mary Swann, will also be sharing sailing tales with us, and Ship Store Director, Lisa Woods, has a BIG SALE planned for November.

I hope to see you all for Friendsgiving and at the Holiday Party, or out on the water!

In October, we traded our typical WSA-OC-sponsored OTW event for a pop-up gathering in Dana Point, where members embodied the spirit of Witchy Women by dressing up and participating in a joyful community event,  Cruising around the harbor on SUPs and kayaks was an experience that brought everyone together, and I hope you were able to join in on the fun!

November always feels like the perfect time to slow down, take a deep breath, and appreciate the wonderful community we have here at WSA-OC. This year has been full of memorable moments on and off the water, and I’m so grateful for everyone who makes this club feel like family. It has been my great pleasure to organize this year’s events and help raise money for our beloved association. The generosity of our members has made every outing and fundraiser a true success - Thank you!

To celebrate the season, we’re hosting a Friendsgiving Duffy Cruise on Saturday, November 22, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. It’ll be a relaxed morning on the harbor with good friends, brunch-style charcuterie platters, and our lighthearted “Favorite Things” gift exchange (bring one of your favorite $10 item to show, tell, and trade if you want to participate. You’re also welcome to bring food or drinks to share, if you’d like!

We currently have 4 Duffys committed, and may rent more if there’s strong interest,  so sign up early to secure your spot. And don't forget to bring your refillable water bottle (filled).

This is the FINAL OTW Event of 2025. Let’s wrap up the year with gratitude, laughter, and the people who make WSA-OC so special. See you on the water on November 22nd!

UPCOMING EVENTS:

Please save the date for our fun and lively:

1.  Holiday Party – See invitation above

December 11, 2025 – 5:30 – 9:30

2.  November General Meeting –

November 12, 2025

Please join us for an exciting evening at the WSA-OC November General Meeting on Wednesday, November 12, 2025. At the meeting, we’ll be voting on members to fill three 2026 board positions: Rear Commodore, Treasurer, and Ship Store Director. We will also hear from our adventurous Lifetime Member and resident “Old Salt”, Mary Swann, about “A Lifetime of Adventures on the Water”.

If you don’t know Mary, you need to! From her earliest days on the water, Mary embraced sailing with passion and curiosity. Over the years, she became an accomplished and knowledgeable sailor, sharing countless adventures at sea with her family and friends. Her deep experience and enthusiasm made her not only a skilled mariner but also an inspiring companion on every voyage.

Mary’s love of sailing was anchored by her co-ownership of the beloved boat Cruz Control. With this vessel, she explored new horizons, creating memories and bonds that carried far beyond the marina. Her dedication to the sailing community is unmatched; she rarely misses a WSA-OC meeting, making the regular drive from her home in La Verne, CA, to Dana Point or Newport Beach, depending on the meeting location. Beyond meetings, she maximizes every opportunity to be on the water, embodying the club’s spirit of participation, camaraderie, and adventure.

When she’s not sailing, Mary’s creativity shines through her work as a potter and ceramics artist, crafting pieces that reflect both imagination and timeless artistry. She has often contributed her one-of-a-kind creations to WSA-OC’s annual holiday party silent auction, where they are always favorites among
bidders. Be sure to keep an eye out and bid if she creates something for our 2025 party! She also tends to a flourishing garden, where she delights in the natural beauty of flowers, greenery, and the wildlife that visit her sanctuary.

At her core, Mary is a devoted mother, grandmother, and role model. She demonstrates daily what it means to live life fully, chasing passions, nurturing creativity, celebrating nature, and saying “yes” to adventure. To all who know her, Mary Swann is a true example of “going for it” in life.

We look forward to hearing from Mary Swann, Lifetime WSA-OC member.
