On Friday, July 4th, Americans will come together to commemorate the Declaration of Independence, which promised “Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness” for its citizens.
We also have an extraordinary list of WSA-OC Members who have July birthdays. Best wishes to this Water Sign, the caring, nurturing Cancers (June 21-July 22) and the charismatic and generous Leos (July 23-Aug 22).
The 2025 Catalina Extravaganza is going to be exceptional. For the first time this year, we have a dozen new members participating! Karen has worked hard to get over a dozen boats and has planned fun activities. Lisa Woods created a fantastic logo for our WSA-OC custom-fitted tees to mark the occasion.
Again, there will NOT be a Membership Meeting in July. We will see you again at BCYC on August 13th. Have a lovely celebratory July.

Thank you to all our boat owners and participating members for making the first half of the year’s OTW events fantastic! We started off the year with a bang with our Nautical New Year Sail, we celebrated Galentine’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day together, welcomed spring in with our Spring Fling, had a Tropical Luau Duffy cruise, and observed the annual Summer SAILstice. This means summer’s finally here!
This also means it is time for our annual Catalina Island Extravaganza in Two Harbors, AKA “The Isthmus”.
Your WSA-OC Commodore will ring in the event with a toast on Thursday evening as we salute WSA-OC’s 46th year. We have 46 members and 12 boats registered as I write this. Boat assignments have been sent out, and Skippers and their crews can start preparing for provisions and party plans. Some boats will be working individually, and some in pairs, to choose a theme with costumes, decorations, and fare for the Friday Progressive Appetizer party.
Remember to visit our website to purchase additional WSAOC merchandise and wear it during our trip to Catalina. Here is the link https://wsaoc.square.site/
I wish you all a great summer. Get out on the water with friends and family. The Catalina trip will be a great opportunity to get to know your fellow sailors better, and WSA-OC meetings and events are always an opportunity to make new friends for life!

Ahoy, mates!
DONATE A GIFT FOR ADVENTURESAIL!
Use the above QR code to access the AdventureSail gift registry on Amazon.com. Placing your order is simple. Items will be shipped to one address, packed into daypacks, and presented to the girls at the AdventureSail outing on August 9 at Dana Point Harbor.
WSA-OC invites girls ages 10-14 from the Boys & Girls Club of San Clemente to experience the joy of sailing. This annual event is a highlight of the year for the girls! For some, AdventureSail is their first time on a boat. They love their daypacks stuffed with hats, sunscreen, towels, and other goodies. A greeting committee of WSA-OC members will bring lunches and join the girls for a picnic and orientation before cast-off.
Thanks to all who are contributing gift items, boats, and help.
The next Philanthropy event will be Women in the Wind, September 27, at Newport Beach Harbor, in partnership with Soroptimists International Huntington Beach. More info will follow in the next newsletter and on the WSA-OC members-only Facebook page.
